Aliso Viejo, Calif. - Arizona Christian University sophomore forward Chelsea Ruland (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) scored her ninth goal of the season and 19th career goal at 95:32 in the first overtime and gave ACU (5-11-1) a 1-0 season-ending victory at Soka University of America (4-11-3) in Aliso Viejo, California, Sunday, Oct. 28.Ā
Coached by Carl Cecil (third season), ACU set a school record for most victories in a season (5), exceeding the former record set in 2011 by two victories. ACU's 1-1 tie this season also happened against Soka when the two teams met in the August 25 season-opener at Scottsdale Sports Complex. ACU was 2-0-1 in overtime matches this season.Ā
Freshman Aubrey Wimmer (Shingle Springs, Calif./Ponderosa H.S.), who moved from her usual defender position to forward, delivered an overhead bicycle kick toward the Soka goal with 5:32 elapsed in the first 10-minute overtime period, and Ruland ran onto the well-placed pass and scored the Golden Goal Wimmer earned her second assist of the season on the play.Ā
Ruland finishes her second season of ACU women's soccer with nine goals and two assists for 20 points in 2012, with two overtime Golden Goals, and is ACU's all-time leading scorer with a record 19 goals and five assists for a record 43 points in 29 career matches.Ā
ACU's freshman goalkeeper Sydney Roller-Sotak (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) totaled seven saves in the match, five in the second half and one in overtime, and recorded her school record second shutout of the season. She finished the 2012 season with a school record of 2.46 goals- against average, allowing 43 goals in 1572 minutes. ACU's defense also established a new school record for fewest goals allowed in a season, giving up 43 in 17 matches, and ACU recorded a school record 12 assists.Ā
