Biola Outshoots ACU

La Mirada, Calif. - Biola University (5-4-1, 2-1-0 GSAC) lit up the scoreboard four times in the second half of its 4-0 Golden State Athletics Conference victory over Arizona Christian University (3-5-1, 0-3-0 GSAC), Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Al Barbour Field on the Biola campus in La Mirada, Calif. The Eagles outshot visiting Arizona Christian University by a wide 31-2 margin and led 12-1 in shots on goal and 13-0 in corner kicksĀ 

The Firestorm, coached by Carl Cecil (third season), plays another GSAC match in southern California when they travel to 17th ranked Vanguard University (7-2-0, 3-0-0 GSAC) in Costa Mesa, Saturday, Oct. 6, for a 4 p.m. match.Ā 

Freshman forward Jesslyn Jana (Placerville, Calif./El Dorado H.S.) attempted both of ACU's shots, one in the first half and the other struck directly on goal that was saved by Biola goalkeeper Briana Williams at 78:49, late in the second half. ACU freshman Sydney Roller- Sotak (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) saved eight Biola shots on goal, seven in the second half.Ā 

Senior midfielder Taylor Lindquist began Biola's scoring at 67:34 of the second half, earning her first goal of the season on Biola's 22nd shot of the match and sixth shot on goal. Junior midfielder Victoria Dalla Zanna converted a penalty kick at 78:20 for her second goal of the season, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Lindquist and defender Michelle Clark each tried three of Biola's shots, and forward Jessica Austin shot four times.Ā 

Sophomore defender Shea Davis added her second goal of the season at 85:33 with a blast into the upper right corner from 35 yards out shortly after a corner kick, and sophomore midfielder Amanda Lillicrop completed the scoring at 88:10 with her first goal of the season, tapping in a loose ball in the penalty box after it had deflected off the goalpost.
