Concordia Strikes By ACU Women

IRVINE, CA – The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's soccer team fell Tuesday afternoon to the 7th ranked Concordia Eagles by a final of 7-1 on the road in Irvine, California.

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-7 overall, and 0-2 in GSAC play. With the victory, Concordia improves to 8-2-1 overall and 2-0-1 in GSAC play.

The Eagles got on the board first Tuesday afternoon in the sixth minute of the game, when Natalie Werner sent a pass into Kendall Reekstin; who headed it into the top left corner of the goal to give Concordia the early 1-0 advantage.

In the 19th minute, the Eagles found the back of the net again, this time on a crossing pass from Dayln Petroff to Megan Daniels. With the goal, Daniels has now scored seven times this season.

After trailing 2-0, the Firestorm went on the attack and notched a goal just before halftime, as Nikki Cecil found Chelsea Ruland for her third goal of the season. Ruland beat two defenders and out her shot over the keepers head for the tough goal to make it 2-1.

Following the Firestorm goal, it was all Concordia; as they scored four times to open the second half on their way to an impressive 7-1 victory. Kendall Reekstin added her second goal of the match in the 49th minute, followed by a goal from Alexis Garcia Irons in the 53rd minute. Megan Daniels added her eighth goal of the season in the 53rd minute, Ariana Vaughn chimed in with a goal in the 78th minute, and Alex Cui Lang closed out the scoring for Concordia with her first goal of the season on a pass from Kristen Pepperling.

For the game, ACU only managed two shots, compared to Concordia's 27. Firestorm, goalkeeper Alex Dugan made 11 saves on 24 shots faced; while allowing five of Concordia's seven goals.

The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, when they travel to Costa Mesa, California to face Vanguard University at 1pm. The Firestorm men's soccer team will follow them at 3:30pm.
