Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, Arizona Christian hung around with San Diego Christian but came away on the short end of a 3-0 score.  Junior Makenna Newman fired four of her five shots on goal.

The Hawks controlled the ball to begin the game and in fact scored in the 11th minute on header off a corner kick.

In the 19th minute, Newman fired from outside the box but right at the San Diego Christian goalkeeper.  She repeated a long range shot nine minutes later with the same result.

Junior Marissa Stevens joined the ACU shooting efforts with two shots in the final ten minutes of the first half- one on goal but saved and another one wide left.

Despite being outshot 10-4 in the first 45 minutes, the Firestorm held the Hawks to just the one goal.

Stevens picked up where she left off in the first half by connecting for the first shot of the second half just 38 seconds into action.

Junior Serenity Masterson, who tended the goal in the first half and secured three saves, needed less than two minutes on the field to hit her first shot of the day- a three hopper from the left side but it too was saved.

A handball in the box by an Arizona Christian defender and the made ensuing penalty kick changed the tune of the second half and game as SDCC built a 2-0 lead.

The Firestorm had their chances to get back in the match as they attempted a total of eight shots in the second half but could not find the back of the net.

SDCC added their final goal with about 11 and a half minutes to play to seal the deal.

On Thursday, the Firestorm will play their first of two matches in Northern California as they head up to William Jessup in Rocklin.  They are scheduled for a 12:30 pm start with the Warriors.
