Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, Arizona Christian ended their season with a 1-0 overtime loss to Antelope Valley.  Junior Makenna Newman fired three of her four shots on goal.

Following three shots by the Pioneers in the first six minutes, the Firestorm connected for three shots of their own.  Senior Aubrey Wimmer hit the first shot of the day for ACU by sending a free kick from 40 yards into the box.  The shot took a high hop and bounced over the UAV goalkeeper but carried just a few yards left of the goal.  Newman and Freshman Taylor Baker hit two shots on goal but both right at the goalkeeper.

The first half resulted in Antelope Valley taking 12 shots but only five were on target as most of their shots sailed high.  Junior Serenity Masterson stood her ground for five saves including a close range shot that she smothered.  Arizona Christian managed four shots- Newman put another one on target- but the score remained 0-0 at the break.

Half number two played out very similar to the first 45 minutes as the Pioneers outshot the Firestorm 11-5.  Juniors Kelsey Stipek (wide right) and Kailin Anderson (shot on goal) both created a shot about two minutes apart but both came up empty.  Newman (saved) and Senior Bree Duhamel (high) fired off the final two ACU shots.

Masterson once again denied all shots on goal by recording four saves in the second half.

For the second game in a row the Firestorm headed to overtime.

The Pioneers managed four shots- two saved by Masterson- in the first seven minutes of the OT session.  Unfortunately, the fifth UAV shot of the overtime in the 99th minute caromed off the goalpost and carried into the goal to end the contest and give the Pioneers the 1-0 win.

Seniors Wimmer, Duhamel, Bailey Seltzer, Crista Ortiz, and Amber Faulkner closed out their collegiate careers when the game went final.  Ladies- thanks for your dedication to the Arizona Christian soccer team!
