Win If You Hit The Goal The Most? Oh Wait

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- If the object of a soccer match was to hit the actual frame work of the goal then the Firestorm would have won 3-1 on Saturday.  Unfortunately, the shots that actually go in the goal are what count as Arizona Christian lost 4-0 to #4 Westmont.

The game of see how many times we can hit the goal started just 2:30 minutes in as Freshman Marisa Ortiz fired a shot off the left post.  In fact, she momentarily started to celebrate thinking the shot had gone in before realizing it was bouncing away from the goal.

Less than nine minutes in the Warriors turned a rebounded shot into a goal.

Although outshot 10-2 in the first half, the Firestorm kept the match at a one goal deficit.

With the start of the second half, Brooke Lillywhite- who also scored the first goal- made it a 2-0 lead when she sent a free kick off the outstretched hand of Senior goalkeeper Serenity Masterson and into the net.

WC then hit a shot off the crossbar.  Forty-five seconds later, Junior Zoe Kalos launched a shot from the top of the box that banged off the right post and back into the field of play.

Freshman Braxton Carhart completed the goal post trifecta when she hit a shot that just caromed off the top of the crossbar.

The Warriors scored their last two goals in the final 20 minutes.

Come Tuesday, the Firestorm will begin a long week of games as they travel up to Menlo in Atherton.  The match against the Oaks is set for a 3:30 pm start before ACU returns home for matches on Friday and Saturday.
