Firestorm Shoot First Twice But Fall

Box Score

Las Cruces, NM- Taking the first shot of each half was not enough as Arizona Christian came away empty 4-0 at NCAA Division I New Mexico State.

The Firestorm came out fired up and gave the Aggies a little bit of a scare.  In the fourth minute, Senior Makenna Newman sent the first shot of the game wide.

NMSU countered with two shots and a corner kick over the next four and a half minutes.  From there, the teams spent the next ten minutes without recording any type of stat.

In the 18th minute, the Aggies broke through with a cross into the box.

Twenty-nine minutes into the action, Junior Zoe Kalos found an opening but went wide with her shot.

However, with nine minutes left, NMSU made it a 2-0 game with a 35 yard blast.

Junior Samantha Rodriguez sent a shot of her own wide attempting to get ACU on the board.

At the break, NMSU held an 11-3 shooting edge.

Like the first half, Arizona Christian attempted the first shot of the second half- Freshman Marisa Ortiz also went wide.

From there, New Mexico State tacked on two more goals in the final 45 minutes.

Senior Serenity Masterson made nine saves on the day.

On Thursday, the Firestorm will return to Golden State Athletic Conference play on Thursday when they host Menlo at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex at 1:00 pm.
