Firestorm Help GSAC Playoff Chances

Box Score

Santee, CA- On Saturday, Arizona Christian Women's Soccer helped their GSAC playoff chances by defeating San Diego Christian 5-0.  Sophomore Marisa Ortiz scored twice while Sophomore Kylie Neafus scored and gave out two assists.

Ortiz and the Firestorm (7-7-1, 2-4-1 GSAC) needed just 14 minutes to score the first goal.  Eight minutes later, Ortiz netted her 15th goal of the season to give ACU a 2-0 lead.  Fifteen goals by Ortiz breaks her own single season record which she previously set at 14 goals last year.  Neafus assisted on both goals.

After the score remained 2-0 at the half, Sophomore Braxton Carhart got into the scoring act seven minutes into the second half.  For Carhart, it was her first collegiate goal.

Neafus and Freshman Sierra Mendoza concluded the scoring with goals in the final 20 minutes.

Head Coach Alan Berrios stated, "The team put two consistent halves together today.  It is always good when you can connect two good halves.  I thought going forward we did a good job connecting our lines and not leaving any gaps when we lost the ball.  Defensively, we were disciplined.  Happy with our performance today.  Good win on the road."

With the win, ACU solidified the sixth spot with the top six advancing to the GSAC playoffs.

On Thursday, Arizona Christian will host Hope International who currently sit a game ahead of the Firestorm in the standings.  Game time is scheduled for 5:00 pm at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
