Box Score Phoenix, AZ- After tying 0-0 in double overtime in their first meeting this season, the Arizona Christian and Hope International women's soccer teams once again played through 110 minutes without a goal on Thursday night. Freshman Mikaela Bushey recorded a career high 12 saves.
Nine minutes into the contest, the double zeroes against each other was almost ended when the first shot of the match was deflected up into the crossbar by Bushey. Six minutes later, Bushey was rock solid as she made a nice diving save to her left to stuff an attempt.
The Royals (6-6-3, 3-3-2 GSAC) outshot the Firestorm (7-7-2, 2-4-2 GSAC) 9-2 in the first half with Sophomore Marisa Ortiz and Freshman Sierra Mendoza both missing wide.
However, the teams played an even second half with both teams taking 12 shots. Freshman Irene Ledezma sent a rocket of a shot skipping off the top of the crossbar in the 81st minute.
In the overtime sessions, the first overtime saw the best chances with three of the combined four shots requiring saves.
When the final whistle sounded, the team played 220 minutes without a goal against each other this season. Bushey and the backline of Senior Tasha Coleman, Freshman Amariah Kotte, Freshman Hannah Matthews, and Sophomore Sarah Carrell accounted for the fifth defensive shutout of the season for ACU.
The good news for Arizona Christian was the one point earned for the tie moves them one step closer to their goal of qualifying for the GSAC playoffs. ACU continues to sit in the sixth and final spot for the postseason berth.
