Silver Lining In Loss, Playoff Bound

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- Despite losing 4-0 to Vanguard on Saturday, Arizona Christian received news of a silver lining as they qualified for their first GSAC playoffs.  Freshman Veronica Cruz put two of her three shots on goal.

Eight minutes into the game, the Lions (13-3, 9-0 GSAC) scored their first goal.

The Firestorm (7-8-2, 2-5-2 GSAC) held off Vanguard until the 64th minute when they added three goals in 13 minutes.

Sophomore Marisa Ortiz joined Cruz in taking three shots.  Sophomore Sarah Carrell and Freshman Hanna Perez both fired off one shot.

Freshman Mikaela Bushey made seven saves on the day.

After the match, ACU needed to wait for the results of the William Jessup and The Master's game.  With the Firestorm sitting on eight points (two wins and two ties) in GSAC play, WJU was sitting on three points (one win) and had to win their last two games without ACU earning another point.  However, when the Warriors fell 3-0, the Firestorm clinched their first ever GSAC playoff appearance.  ACU cannot climb out of the sixth seed and will travel to the third seed in two weeks.

On Saturday, the Firestorm will host San Diego Christian for their final home game of the season.  ACU Women's Soccer will honor their two seniors prior to kickoff at 11:00 am.
