Ledezma Leads The Way Versus SDCC

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian Women's Soccer closed out the home portion of their schedule on Saturday as they beat San Diego Christian 3-1.  Freshman Irene Ledezma scored two goals in the final tune-up before their first ever visit to the GSAC playoffs.

The Firestorm (8-8-2, 3-5-2 GSAC) took the first four shots of the game in the first five plus minutes- saved, wide right, blocked, and in the net.   Ledezma tallied the first goal of the game at the 5:11 mark when she collected the ball, beat the goalkeeper, and finished.

Over the next forty minutes, the Hawks (4-12, 0-10 GSAC) went toe-to-toe with the Firestorm.  ACU had some good looks including Ledezma knocking a ball off the crossbar.

But SDCC just kept hanging around and with just four seconds left the half Summer Willey crashed the goal and saw her first shot saved but put away the rebound to tie the game at 1-1.

After missing a shot high, Sophomore Marisa Ortiz navigated around a defender near the end line and played a ball back for on coming Sophomore Kylie Neafus crashing the goal.  Neafus delivered what turned out to be the game winner at the 51:15 mark.  For Neafus, it was goal number six on the season.

Less than ten seconds later, Junior Rikki Newland sent a ball up to Ortiz who in turn one timed a pass to send Ledezma in on a one-on-one.  Ledezma beat the keeper and completed her second goal of the game and fourth on the year into the wide open net.

The teams exchanged shots and opportunities until game's end but the score remained 3-1.

Senior Andrea Ortiz and Tasha Coleman were honored before the match.

Next up for the Firestorm will be their first ever trip to the GSAC Playoffs.  After Westmont beat The Master's 3-2 in overtime on Saturday, the Firestorm will meet up with the Mustangs in Santa Clarita on Friday.  Start time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
