A hard fought match from the opening whistle, with both teams showcasing their physicality and defense.  The Firestorm back line was put to the test with the Lions' offense constantly putting pressure on the net.  Sanchez put on a goalkeeping showcase tonight with her seven saves.  ACU was able to conjure up a few offensive opportunities, but in total on the night were only able to put two shots on goal.  However, one shot is all it would take with five minutes left in the game, Mercado played a ball through the middle right to the feet of Cruz who was able to hammer it into the back of the net.  This win was the first in conference play for the women's soccer team, and their first win in program history over Vanguard. 

Thoughts from Coach Nash: 

"That's a huge win for us tonight.  Vanguard is perennially one of the GSAC's strongest teams and for us to be able to keep a clean sheet and walk away with three points is massive.  I'm very proud of the intensity and heart our team displayed for the full 90 minutes. Hopefully we can keep building on this momentum."

The Firestorm stay right here at home for their next match this Saturday, October 15th to take on the San Diego Christian Hawks.  The match will start at 10 Am and the team will be honoring the senior players before kickoff at 9:30.
