Glendale, Ariz. - Following a challenging weekend of matches against NCAA Division I programs, the Lady Firestorm return to NAIA competition and host for the first time this season. A pair of morning matches begins with Benedictine Mesa and wraps up with RV Park Gilbert at Victory Lanes Sports Complex.

With nine matches under their belt, ACU (6-4, 3-2 GSAC) is in third place and half a game behind #8 Vanguard (4-4, 4-2 GSAC) in the conference standings. Three Firestorm pairs (Shaw/Dykstra, Brown/Brown, Brown/Katzer) enter the week with 6-3 records.

Arizona Christian

The Sandy Birds competed against stiff competition at GCU Beach Volleyball Stadium last Saturday, shutout 5-0 in matches with the host Grand Canyon and University of Alabama at Birmingham. Only the number-two pair, Haley Brown/Riley Brown, was able to force a third set against the NCAA Division I and #14-ranked Lopes.

Series Notes

Arizona Christian is 1-3 in their all-time series with the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks that dates back to the 2019 season. After losing the first three meetings (all in 2019), the Firestorm won the previous match 3-2 on February 26, 2022 in Mesa. The match came down to the five pair, as Delaney Gill/Jennafer Oakley defeated Paige Padilla/Mariah Montoya in a tightly contested two-setter (21-17, 24-22).

The Firestorm are now 2-1 in their all-time series with the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers following a 5-0 victory in their 2024 season opener on February 9th. No match went to three sets and Amaya Brown/Emily Katzer earned the most dominant victory of the day, downing Park Gilbert's number five pair (Danielle Miranda-Johnson/Eliza Pearson) by a combined 26 points (21-10, 21-6). Friday marks the first time Arizona Christian will play at home in this series.

Benedictine Mesa

The Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (1-1, 0-0 Cal Pac) split their opening two matches on February 10th, falling to Bushnell 3-2 and defeating Northwest (WA) 3-2 at Arizona Athletic Grounds. Tomorrow's match against the Firestorm will be their first since, and marks the beginning of seven matches in an eight-day stretch.

Park Gilbert

The Park University Gilbert Buccaneers (2-8, 0-0 Cal Pac) had a busy start to their 2024 season, competing in seven matches over three days (February 8-10), leaving Arizona Athletic Grounds with a 2-5 record. Since then, the Buccaneers have lost three in a row, most recently falling 5-0 to #1 OUAZ on February 27th.
