Waybright Returns to Lead Firestorm Bowling

Glendale- Ariz.- David Waybright has been appointed the Head Bowling Coach for the Firestorm. Waybright returns to Arizona Christian University following the departure of former coach Dallas Bivins, who led the program for the past four seasons. Coach Waybright will immediately step in and look to continue the positive momentum the program established this past season.

Waybright captained the ACU Bowling program as a four-year member of the team, prior to graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Secondary Education and a minor in Biblical Studies. In addition to his success in the classroom and in bowling, Waybright served in the ACU Athletics Department with game day operations and sports information.

Coach Waybright commented, "Finishing what I start has always been important to me. As a member of the inaugural bowling team, I saw the seeds planted for a team and watched it grow over the past few years. Very excited and thankful for the opportunity to be able to coach the game I love. Let's roll!"

Waybright is a teacher in the Valley, and has coached a number of sports teams along the way, including baseball, football and basketball. His experience on the lanes will help him as he takes the reins of the bowling program. Waybright was state champion at the California Youth Championships, named a scholar athlete within the National Bowling Coaches Association and Daktronics scholar athlete during his time with the Firestorm. A fifteen year league bowler, Waybright was a Board Member and former 2nd Vice President of the California United States Bowling Congress for seven years. He also was a member of the Golden Empire United States Bowling Congress through 2021.

ACU Director of Athletics, Dr. Peter Dryer, stated, "Coach Waybright has a passion and enthusiasm for the Firestorm Bowling program. He knows the landscape of USBC Intercollegiate Bowling, and is prepared to take our program to new heights!"

Welcome back to ACU, Coach Waybright!
