Glendale, AZ- The women's cross-country team kicked off their 2024 campaign at the Embry-Riddle Invite in Prescott, AZ by running a smart and controlled early part of the race before kicking it in over the final thousand meters. Running at 5,500 feet, and on a course filled with long steady up hills, and uneven ground, the team knew this would be the slowest, and most challenging course they would see all season.
Head Coach
Brent Fahsholz said, "To run on a course as challenging as this one is just what our team needs this time of year. The first race of the year is about seeing where we are at as a team. With so many days and miles ahead of us, we want to treat this type of race as a building block for the many challenges which still lie ahead."
The team was led by senior
Allena Fugatt who finished 4
th overall with a time of 21:15, and freshman
Eva Huff who had an impressive start to her collegiate career running a time of 22:23 and finishing 11
th overall. Her time was the 5
thfastest all-time for this course in program history.
Said Coach Fahsholz, "I thought Allena and Eva executed this race perfectly. They showed patience early, and strong competitive spirits over the final 2,000 meters. It's races like that you can build a successful season from. Unfortunately, we were missing several of our ladies today due to sickness or precaution, and so we are excited to get healthy over the next two weeks, and hopefully be able to present our full team at The Firestorm Classic we host on Friday September 20
th."
