Davenport Selected To Lead Launch Of ACU Women’s Lacrosse

Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian University has named Gabby Davenport head coach of its new women's lacrosse program. Davenport will lead the program as it prepares to begin competition in the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) and the Western Women's Lacrosse League (WWLL).

Davenport becomes the program's first head coach, tasked with building ACU women's lacrosse from the ground up - from roster construction and culture-setting to establishing the Firestorm as a competitive presence in one of the West's growing lacrosse leagues.

A proven program leader, Davenport arrives in Glendale after a successful five-year run as head coach at Redmond High School in Oregon, where she guided the program from 2019-24 and earned Head Coach of the Year honors in 2021. She also brings grassroots experience from her time as an assistant coach with Raven's Lacrosse Club, helping develop players at the foundational level.

"This opportunity is special," Coach Davenport said. "To build a program from day one, to compete in strong leagues like the WCLA and WWLL, and to do it at a place like Arizona Christian is something I'm incredibly grateful for. I'm excited to start laying the foundation and getting to work."

Davenport's commitment to her Christian faith, and her background in player development and team leadership will be central as the Firestorm begin recruiting and preparing for their inaugural season.

The new women's team will compete in the Western Women's Lacrosse League (WWLL), a premier conference within the Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA), a national association of teams.  The WCLA governs collegiate club lacrosse for more than 200 women's teams nationwide, and the WWLL competes in Arizona, California and Nevada.
The WCLA and WWLL emphasize competitiveness, leadership development, and growing the women's lacrosse community - all areas that align perfectly with the direction of ACU's new program.
