Glendale, Ariz.- Arizona Christian Beach Volleyball turned in a strong Friday performance at the ACU Beach Volleyball Courts, sweeping Park Gilbert 5-0 before rallying for a 3-2 win over Wayne State (Neb.).
Against Park Gilbert, the Sandy Birds controlled the dual from start to finish, claiming straight-set wins on all five courts.
Emily Casner and
Emee Fellens led the charge with a decisive 21-12, 21-8 victory at the No. 1 position.
Jaiden Zeis and
Jasmin Joseph secured a 21-17, 21-9 win at No. 2, while
Alyssa Robles and
Abigail Nelson dominated court three 21-7, 21-14.
Abby Siebert and
Haley Tedrow added a 21-19, 21-14 win at No. 4, and
Kapri Espinosa and
Lilly Petersen completed the sweep with a 21-14, 21-14 victory at No. 5.
In the afternoon match, Arizona Christian rebounded after dropping the first two decisions of the dual to Wayne State. The Firestorm responded with wins on the final three courts to secure the comeback victory. Espinosa and Petersen sparked the rally with a 21-12, 21-18 win at No. 5. Robles and Nelson followed with a 21-12, 21-17 victory at No. 3 before Casner and Fellens clinched the dual with a 21-17, 21-14 win at the top flight.
