Firestorm Open Up Season With A Draw

Glendale, Ariz. – Arizona Christian looked poised for its first game of the season after building a two-goal first-half advantage, but Redlands rallied with two late goals as the teams settled for a 2-2 draw in an exhibition game in California.

The Firestorm wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.
Krista Hardesty opened the scoring in the eighth minute, finding the back of the net unassisted to give ACU an early 1-0 lead.
Arizona Christian continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting Redlands 10-5 while controlling much of the attacking play.
ACU doubled its advantage in the 31st minute when Zoey Stupnik came off the bench and buried her first goal of the season, once again without an assist, giving the Firestorm a 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.
The Firestorm continued to create chances after the break but were unable to add an insurance goal.
Redlands broke through in the 81st minute before finding the equalizer less than five minutes later to erase the deficit.
Arizona Christian finished with a 14-7 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on goal.
Hardesty led the offensive effort with four shots and a goal, while Stupnik scored on her lone shot on target.
Rian Gaeta added two shots, and Peyton Baca, Mikayla James, and Lexy Rowe each contributed quality scoring chances.
Goalkeeper Tayler Wonderly made one save over 90 minutes in net.
ACU tied with the University of Redlands, 2-2.
