Coach Alex Smyth began coaching with the ACU Track & Field staff before the 2019 season.  Prior to coaching at ACU, Coach Smyth was a local state and regional champion.  The USA Track & Field AZ State and USA Southwest Region 10 Champion was a national medalist in the shot put, discus, and hammer throws.  At Mesa Community College, Smyth was the NJCCA Regional Champion and held the number one ranking in the shot put.  As a senior at Fountain Hills High School, Smyth won the state championship in the shot put and discus.

In 2014, Coach Smyth graduated with a degree in environmental engineering from Arizona State University.
