TMC Nets Win Over ACU

Santa Clarita, Calif. - The Master's College (10-4-2, 5-3-0 GSAC), ranked 21st in the current NAIA Top 25 National Coaches' poll, scored three goals in a span of nine minutes late in the first half and went on to snap a three-match losing streak with a 4-0 Golden State Athletics Conference women's soccer victory over Arizona Christian University (4-9-1, 1-7-0 GSAC), Saturday, Oct. 20, on Pete Reese Field on the TMC campus in Santa Clarita, Calif.

ACU hosts Biola University (7-6-1, 4-3-0 GSAC) for its last home match of the season, Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m., at Scottsdale Sports Complex, Field 2, in Scottsdale, Ariz. ACU's three senior players, defenders Christiana Hines (Anthem, Ariz./Boulder Creek HS/Glendale CC) and Chelsey Martin (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert Christian HS) and midfielder Beth MaGee (Carney's Point, N.J./Salem County Christian Academy/Salem CC) will be honored prior to the contest.

The Master's College scored its first goal on its 11th shot and third shot on goal in the first half, when sophomore midfielder Jasmine Benson tallied her fifth goal of the season at 34:05. A shot on goal by senior midfielder Danielle Hollinger was saved by ACU's freshman goalkeeper Sydney Roller-Sotak (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.), who bobbled the ball. Benson buried the rebound, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

Senior forward Kristyn Richards made it 2-0 at 36:33 with her third goal, scoring off a corner kick delivered by senior midfielder Gia Loza, her fourth assist, and later hit the side post with a shot at 43:00. The ball caromed to midfielder Kayla Gale, whose shot was first saved and then dropped by Roller-Sotak. The loose ball rolled to senior midfielder Rachel Myers, who netted her fourth goal at 43:04, shortly before intermission. TMC led 16-0 in shots, 5-0 in shots on goal and 4-0 in corner kicks after the first 45-minute half.

The Mustangs added their fourth goal at the 52:48 mark, early in the second half, when sophomore midfielder Shea Richards scored her 11th goal of the season off Loza's second assist of the game and fifth of the season.

TMC goalkeeper Ilyssa Espiritu faced no ACU shots on goal in 90 minutes, and Roller-Sotak finished with eight saves on 12 opponent shots on goal. Hollinger attempted eight of TMC's shots, and Kristyn Richards tried four. Benson finished with three shots, including two that hit crossbars in the first half, and Shea Richards also shot three times, putting two on net.

TMC totaled 30 shots, 12 on goal, and led 13-1 in corner kicks. ACU attempted three shots, all in the second half, but put none directly on goal
