Phoenix, Ariz. - Sophomore All-NCCAA West Region forward Chelsea Ruland (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy) tied the match, 1-1, with a goal in the 71st minute, as Arizona Christian University (0-0-1) and Soka University of America (0-0-1) both opened the 2012 season with a double-overtime draw, August 25, at the Scottsdale Sports Complex.
Coached by Carl Cecil (third season), the Firestorm take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, Tuesday, August 28 at 7 p.m., in the only match of the week.
After a scoreless first half in which the sides combined for just five shots, three by Soka, and only one shot on goal and were awarded eight combined corner kicks, five by Soka. Soka also scored first early in the second half when forward Skyler McClanahan beat ACU's defense on an unassisted run and 20-foot shot over a retreating ACU's freshman goalkeeper Sydney Roller- Sotak (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.).

Arizona Christian outshot Soka, 10-6, for the match and led 4-2 in shots directly on goal and 9-6 in corner kicks. The Firestorm outshot Soka, 8-3, in the final 65 minutes of action, including the two overtime periods.
Roller-Sotak made one save in the match, and Soka goalkeeper Katie Olsen saved three. Ruland attempted four of ACU's 10 shots.
