Prescott, Ariz. - Forward Kelsey Anderson scored a three-goal hat trick, including a penalty kick, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University shut out Arizona Christian University, 5-0, in August 28 collegiate women's soccer action on Varsity Field in Prescott, Ariz. ERAU (1-1-1) earned its first win of the season, and ACU fell to 0-1-1.
Coached by Carl Cecil (third season), the Firestorm host Illinois Institute of Technology from Chicago, Friday, Sept. 7, at 5 p.m., and Menlo College from northern California, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., at Scottsdale Soccer Complex, Field 3.
Embry-Riddle held ACU to four shots, all on goal, and contained ACU's best scoring threat, sophomore forward Chelsea Ruland (Tucson, Ariz./Pusch Ridge Christian Academy), who attempted no shots in the match. ERAU goalkeeper Brenna Quinn made four saves in the match, and ACU tried three corner kicks.
ERAU totaled 27 shots with 16 directly on goal, and ACU's freshman goalkeeper Sydney Roller-Sotak (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) saved eight of them, and ACU defenders saved three others. Anderson led with five shots, four on goal, and ERAU attempted five corner kicks.
Anderson scored at the 29:31 mark of the first half with an assist from forward Carissa Frazier, and forward Savannah Garn converted another assist from Frazier at 40:01 for a 2-0 just before halftime. Anderson added a penalty kick resulting from Roller-Sotak's foul in the penalty area at 55:09, and made the score 5-0 at 85:29 late in the match off an assist by reserve Kelsey Merrigan, Anderson's third goal of the game and the season. Forward Kalyn Goodenough took an assist from defender Kayla Billings at 81:48 for ERAU's fourth goal.
