San Diego Christian Doubles Up Firestorm

PHOENIX, AZ – The San Diego Christian Hawks outscored Arizona Christian 4-1 in the second half and defeated the Firestorm in the process by a final of 4-2 at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix on Wednesday evening. 

With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 3-10 overall and 0-6 in GSAC play, while San Diego Christian College improves to 3-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in GSAC play this season.

After 30 plus minutes of scoreless play, the Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team scored the first goal of the contest at the 32nd minute mark, when Ryan Maris buried his shot into the back of the net on a Carlos Mendoza pass. ACU would then take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Hawks from San Diego Christian wasted no time, as they evened the score at one just a minute and 35 seconds into the second half. Neil Keith scored for the Hawks unassisted.

San Diego Christian got their second goal of the night just five minutes later on an Alex Saliba pass to Francisco Ramirez to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead.

ACU responded four minutes later thanks to Ryan Maris's second goal of the night on a nice pass from David Alton to tie the game at two.

After that, it was all Hawks as Francisco Ramirez scored his second goal of the night to make it 3-2 in the 65th minute. Then Borja Suarez put the game out of reach with his goal in the 71st minute from Pedro Henrique to make it 4-2.

The Arizona Christian men's soccer team returns to action this Saturday, when they travel to Santa Clarita, California to face The Master's College at 1:30pm. The women will precede the ACU men at 11am also against The Master's College.
