Firestorm Defeat Antelope Valley

LANCASTER, CA – The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team defeated the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers on Monday afternoon, by a final of 2-1 in Lancaster, California.

With the victory, the Firestorm improve to 4-13 overall and remain 0-9 in GSAC play, while the University of Antelope Valley falls to 1-12 overall this season.

Both teams played a scoreless first half, but each offense came out firing. In the first half on Monday, ACU fired eight shots, comparted to seven shots for Antelope Valley.

In the second half, both teams fired eight shots each; as each team found the back of the net. The Pioneers scored first, just a minute and 37 seconds into the second half; when Jorge Diaz found Michael Fuentes for the game's first goal.

Just seven minutes later, the Firestorm found the back of the net for the first time, when James Riesing found Ken McAvoy to tie the game at one.

Then in the 73rd minute, ACU scored again for the games winning goal when Christian Kirby sent a pass to Trevor Cates who scored the game-winning goal.

Firestorm goalie Jorge Arauz got the victory, while making five saves and allowing just the one goal.

The Firestorm will conclude their 2014 season on Saturday November 1st, when they host Vanguard University at 1:30pm, which will be preceded by the women's game at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex on field two.
