Box Score PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team were defeated on Saturday afternoon by the Vanguard Lions by a final of 3-1 on Senior Day at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix.
With the loss, the Firestorm close out their 2014 season with a record of to 4-14 overall and 0-10 in GSAC play, while Vanguard improves to 10-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in GSAC play this season. With the victory, the Lions secured the #3 seed in the GSAC postseason tournament.
The Firestorm struck first on Saturday afternoon, when Anthony Archuleta found Carlos Mendoza on a crossing pass to give ACU a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.
Vanguard responded about 20 minutes later, when Luis Valdivia scored in the 34th minute to tie the game at 1. The two teams would remain tied at one heading into halftime.
In the second half, the Lions got on the board just four minutes in, when Jesus Fregoso found Juan Arellano to make it 2-1 in the 49th minute.
Vanguard tallied one more goal for insurance in the 60th minute, off a corner kick from Juan Arellano to Hector Garcia in front of the net to make it 3-1.
Firestorm seniors Jorge Arauz, Carlos Mendoza, Trevor Cates, and Jacob Evans were honored before the game for their contributions here at Arizona Christian University.
