Firestorm Fall In Regular Season Finale

PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian Firestorm volleyball team were swept by the San Diego Christian College Hawks on Saturday afternoon by a final of 3-0. Finals were 25-8, 25-18, and 26-24.

With the loss, the Firestorm end their 2014 season with a record of 10-15 overall and 4-12 in GSAC play. With the victory, San Diego Christian College improves to 10-15 overall and 4-12 in GSAC play.

The first set was dominated by the Hawks from San Diego Christian, as they jumped on the Firestorm early for a quick 16-4 lead. The Hawks kept attacking ACU and would go on to win the first set by a final score of 25-8.                                                                                          

In the second set, the Firestorm looked to regain their composure and get back into the game. ACU would jump out to an early 9-4 lead, before letting the Hawks back into the set. San Diego then rattled off six straight points to take a 10-9 lead. After going back and forth with points, the Hawks would pull away late and take a 25-18 win, scoring five of the last six points to close out the set.

The third set; much like the second set was a battle to the end as well. The two teams both had established some momentum and kept the set close. San Diego Christian took the early 5-1 lead, before ACU settled in and started to make their comeback. In the middle of the set, ACU and San Diego Christian exchanged points going from a 10-10 to an 18-18 tie. Then the Firestorm scored three straight points to take the 21-18 advantage, only to see the Hawks score seven of the next ten points to win the third set by a final of 26-24.

After the match, senior MacKenzie Worden was honored on the court for her four years of service here at Arizona Christian University. The Firestorm were led by Worden's team best nine kills in the match. Hailey Settle finished with 13 assists and Haley Worden had a team best 16 digs.
