Box Score PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian Firestorm volleyball team were swept by the 21st ranked Vanguard Lions on Tuesday evening by a final of 3-0. Finals were 26-24, 25-19, and 25-16.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 10-13 overall and 4-10 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 21st ranked Vanguard Lions improve to 20-11 overall and 9-5 in GSAC play.
The first set was intense on Tuesday night, as ACU and Vanguard exchanged points throughout the match. The Lions proved to be too strong down the stretch, as they were able to pull away for the two point win.
In the second set, the Lions jumped on ACU early. Vanguard received strong showings from Sarah McKinny, Jessica Chase and Charlotte Heerlyn; which helped propel them past the Firestorm in the second set.
Down 0-2 heading into the third set, the Firestorm did all they could to muster a fourth set, but fell short 25-16; dropping all three sets to Vanguard.
The Firestorm were led by Mackenzie Worden and Jenny Thompson, whom both finished with nine kills apiece. Setters Kailaa Heaney and Hailey Settle finished with 16 and 14 assists respectively.
The road doesn't get any easier for the Firestorm, as they welcome the 3rd ranked Concordia Eagles to Fultz Memorial Gymnasium this Saturday. The match is set to begin at 2pm and admission is only $7 for adults and $3 for alumni and senior citizens.
