Box Score LA MIRADA, CA– The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's basketball team came out blazing on Saturday evening as they stormed past the Biola Eagles by a final of 88-73 in La Mirada, California.
With the victory, the 19th ranked Firestorm improve to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in GSAC play. With the loss, Biola drops to 10-3 overall and 1-2 in GSAC play.
Arizona Christian came out strong on Saturday, by shooting 66% from the field and 55% from beyond the three-point arc in the first half. The Firestorm shot 71% from the charity stripe as well. The Eagles shot a respectable 44% from the field in the first half, but just couldn't keep pace with the Firestorm. ACU took a comfortable 48-34 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Arizona Christian cooled from the field, shooting just 38% from the field and 28% from beyond the three-point arc. The lone bright spot for ACU, was getting to the free-throw line and converting 12 free throws on 13 attempts. Biola on the other hand, shot 50% from the field and 33% from beyond the three-point arc. The Eagles also shot 80% from the free-throw line but were still outscored by the Firestorm by a point 40-39 in the second half enroot to an 88-73 victory for ACU.
Arizona Christian was led in scoring by Charles King with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting with a rebound and one assist. Three other Firestorm players also scored in doubles figures in the victory. Biola was led by Dakari Archer with 27 points in the losing effort. Mike Kurtz was the only other Eagle to score in double figures with 17 points.
The Firestorm men return to action later this week, when they take part in the Great Falls Classic in Chandler, Arizona at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The Firestorm open up play on Thursday against Carroll College at 9pm, followed by the University of Lethbridge on Friday at 7pm. ACU closes out play in the classic on Saturday against Rocky Mountain at 8pm.
