Box Score PHOENIX, AZ – The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team fell late Tuesday evening by a final of 3-1 against the 24th ranked Biola Eagles in their GSAC opener at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex.
"It was a bittersweet loss tonight," said ACU head coach Jonathan Lenarz. "Biola is one of the best in our conference and we played them tight to the very end. The guys were focused on our gameplan and executed well. We could have finished a couple more (times), but I am confident we will going forward, and make our mark in conference play."
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 2-5 overall, and 0-1 in GSAC play. With the victory, Biola improves to 4-2-1 overall and 1-0 in GSAC play.
Biola struck first Tuesday night, as just 14 minutes into the game, Stephen Tanquary scored on assists from Stephen Campos and True Tamplin, to give Biola the early 1-0 lead.
The Firestorm answered with a goal of their own, by David Alton on a Penalty Kick in the 29th minute; to even the score at one.
In the second half, the intensity levels picked up on both sides, but Biola proved to be too much. The Eagles scored in the 69th minute, thanks to Joey O'Keefe. They would add one more goal in the 86th minute, off the foot from True Tamplin, who received an assist from Daniel Martinez to make the score 3-1.
Tamplin ended the game with a goal and an assist for Biola.
Firestorm goalkeeper Jorge Arauz played all 90 minutes and tallied six saves on the evening.
The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, when they host Bethesda University at 1:30pm over at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex. The Firestorm women's soccer team will precede them at 11am, and as always admission is FREE!
