Box Score IRVINE, CA – The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team fell late Tuesday afternoon to the 17th ranked Concordia Eagles by a final of 2-1 in double overtime on the road in Irvine, California.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 3-6 overall, and 0-2 in GSAC play. With the victory, Concordia improves to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in GSAC play.
The Firestorm stuck close with the 17th ranked Concordia Eagles in the first half on Tuesday afternoon. After 45 minutes of play, Concordia led 1-0 on a goal scored by Edgar Orozco; his sixth of the season on a penalty kick.
In the second half, ACU answered with a goal of their own in the 58th minute. The goal was scored by Ken McAvoy; who scored the goal on a long shot that was deflected on an assist from teammate Brett Martinez.
After playing solid defense, the Firestorm would force extra time. Both teams played a scoreless ten minutes in the first overtime, but Concordia scored less than two minutes into the second overtime to come out victorious. Cole Dimond scored on a looping free kick on a pass from Chris Rodriguez.
Jorge Arauz made nine saves on 11 shots faced in the loss for the Firestorm.
The Arizona Christian Firestorm men's soccer team will next be in action on Saturday, when they travel to Costa Mesa, California to face Vanguard University at 3:30pm. The Firestorm women's soccer team will precede them at 1pm.
