Box Score PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell to the San Diego Christian Hawks on Saturday afternoon by a final of 71-66 inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 4-18 overall and remain winless in GSAC play at 0-9. With the victory, the San Diego Christian Hawks improve to 8-13 overall and 4-5 in GSAC play.
In the first half, the Firestorm shot 48% from the floor, but struggled behind the three-point arc; shooting just 14% (1-for-7). ACU managed to make six of their 10 free-throws in the first half as well. San Diego Christian on the other hand, shot 42% from the field, while shooting 33% (3-for-9) from the three-point arc. The Hawks made four of their six free-throw attempts in the first half, as they took a slim 35-33 lead into halftime.
The second half featured a strong comeback performance by the Firestorm. ACU shot just 38% from the floor, but did manage to shoot 75% from the free-throw line. San Diego Christian however, played hard down the stretch in the final few minutes to seal the 71-66 victory. The Hawks shot 45% from the floor and 40% from beyond the three-point arc in the second half.
In the losing effort, the Firestorm had three players score in double figures; with Sophia Anaya leading the way. Anaya scored 24 points on 8-of-19 shooting and went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
The Firestorm women host the Biola Eagles in game two of their three-game homestand on Tuesday evening. Opening tip for the women's game is scheduled for 5:30pm inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium. The men's game will follow the women's game with a scheduled tip time of 7:30pm.
