Box Score PHOENIX, AZ– The 19th ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm men's basketball team once again defeated the University of California-Merced Bobcats on Sunday afternoon by a final of 99-58 inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University in Phoenix, Arizona.
With the victory, the 19th ranked Firestorm improve to 13-3 overall, while the University of California in Merced fall to 1-16 with the loss.
After a 59 point victory the night before over the Bobcats, the Firestorm got off to a slower start Sunday afternoon and actually trailed to start the game. However, as the first half rolled on, the Firestorm crept back into the game and took a strong lead for good. At the half, ACU led UC-Merced 49-28 behind a 52% (18-for-34) shooting mark. The Bobcats were held to 27% (10-for-37) shooting in the first half, and went an abysmal 1-for-12 shooting beyond the three-point arc.
The Firestorm outscored the Bobcats 22-0 in the pain in the first half and also outrebounded UC-Merced 27-15 on the boards. The lone bad spot for the Firestorm in the first half, is that they committed 13 turnovers, to just 8 for UC-Merced.
In the second half, the Firestorm continued their dominance of the Bobcats, outscoring UC-Merced 50-30 on their way to a 99-58 victory. ACU shot 50% from the floor in the second half and shot 44% from beyond the three-point arc.
Leading the way for the Firestorm was Carter Wilson with 19 points. Four total players scored in double-figures including Harshal Kolakar, Wolfgang Wood, and Mike Navar.
The Firestorm men and women's basketball teams will next be in action on Tuesday, when Concordia comes to town. The women will tip-off at 5:30pm, followed by the men at 7:30pm inside of the Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
