Box Score Phoenix, AZ- On Monday afternoon, Great Falls beat Arizona Christian 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 26-24) in Fultz Gym. Junior Samantha McCants was the only player in the match to reach double digit kills as she finished with 12 kills.
The first two sets saw Great Falls lead from start to finish with just one tie.
But Arizona Christian came out and showed a lot of heart in the third set which resulted in 10 ties and 5 lead changes. A block by Sophomore Deborah White and Junior Alana Kempf opened the scoring. The teams exchanged four ties and two lead changes before ACU grabbed a 5-4 lead thanks to a service error by UGF. The Argonauts scored the next three points to take the lead back and build out to a 14-11 edge. Sophomore Hailey Settle helped the Firestorm climb back on top with a service ace and a pair of assists as a kill from Senior Kailaa Heaney gave ACU a 16-15 lead. Great Falls moved back ahead before one last kill for McCants forced a 24-24 tie. UGF scored the final two points for the win.
For McCants, she finished with four kills in each set to account for her even dozen kills for the match.
Sophomore Morgan Stevens led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
On Tuesday afternoon, Arizona Christian and Great Falls will go head-to-head again with the same start time of 4:00 pm.
