Defense Wins Over Offense

Box Score

La Mirada, CA- In the matchup of the highest scoring offense and lowest scoring defense in the GSAC, Arizona Christian dropped a 75-65 result at Biola.  After averaging 90 points per game in their first 11 games, the Firestorm scored a season low to begin the GSAC portion of their schedule.  Senior Brandon Newman and Junior Chris Sterling both accounted for 19 points.

An 8-0 run by the Eagles (12-1, 2-0 GSAC) to begin the game turned out to be too large of a disadvantage for the Firestorm (10-2, 0-1 GSAC) to overcome as they never even managed to force a tie the entire evening.  ACU missed their first four shots of the game.  Four minutes in the Firestorm had scored just one point- a free throw by Senior Bobby Gray.

Down by as many as 17 points in the first 20 minutes of play, ACU was as close as seven points in the closing moments of the first half.  At the break, Biola held a 34-23 edge thanks to shooting 50% from the field.

Newman and Sterling had both scored seven points at the break.

The second half started with ACU falling behind by 13 three times.

However, a 14-4 run saw Arizona Christian creep back within three at 43-40 with 12 minutes and change to play in the game.  Four points during the run from Senior Sharif Watson led the ACU comeback bid.

After BU built another double digit lead, ACU would not get any closer than seven the rest of the way.

Both teams attempted 54 shots in the game but Biola made 29 of their attempts with Arizona Christian converting 22 of their shots from the field (53.7% versus 40.7%).

The Firestorm will return home for their first and only home game in the month of December as they host San Diego Christian in Fultz Gym on Tuesday at 7:30 pm (AT).
