Box Score PHOENIX, AZ– The Arizona Christian Firestorm women's basketball team fell to the 15th ranked Westmont Warriors on Thursday evening by a final of 84-68 inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium on the campus of Arizona Christian University.
With the loss, the Firestorm fall to 5-22 overall and 1-13 in GSAC play. With the victory, the 15th ranked Westmont Warriors improve to 21-5 overall and 8-5 in GSAC play.
The first half was owned by the Warriors, as Westmont rolled to a 48-34 lead at halftime. Westmont shot 55% (21-for-38) from the floor in the first half and shot 33% (4-for-12) from beyond the three-point arc. The Warriors attempted just two free-throws in the first half, but made it count by converting on both shots. ACU shot 48% (14-for-29) from the floor in the first half, but struggled beyond the three-point arc; shooting 20% (1-for-5). The Firestorm went 5-for-6 at the free-throw line in the first half.
In the second half, Arizona Christian played a little bit closer to Westmont, but the Warriors still outscored ACU 36-34 on their way to the 84-68 victory. Westmont shot 51% (15-for-29) from the floor, but shot 30% (3-for-10) from beyond the three-point arc. Westmont struggled at the free-throw line, making just three of their 13 attempts. Arizona Christian shot the ball better in the second half, going 50% (11-for-22) from the field and shooting 71% (5-for-7) from beyond the three-point arc. The Firestorm also shot 7-of-9 from the free-throw line, but the comeback wasn't strong enough as the Firestorm fell.
In the loss, the Firestorm had three players finish in double-figures. Leading the way was Samantha Young with 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and an assist.
The Firestorm women close out the home portion of their 2014-15 campaign this Saturday, when they welcome the 16th ranked The Master's College Mustangs on Senior Night. Game time is scheduled for 2pm, with the men to follow at 4pm inside of Fultz Memorial Gymnasium.
