Phoenix, AZ- In the battle of fire mascots, the Arizona Christian Firestorm defeated the Saint Katherine Firebirds 2-0 on Friday night.  Junior Ryan Scarpulla and Freshman David Hagerich delivered the Firestorm goals.

Shots, shots, and more shots was the theme of the night for ACU as they fired off a total of 38 in the game.

However, despite 15 first half shots including seven from Freshman Juan Mora, ACU could not find the back of the net.

The first 15 minutes of second half action featured many more shots- mostly high over the crossbar- but yielded the same results of a zero on the scoreboard.

Finally in 61st minute, Senior Luis Tapia connected with Scarpulla, who had made a run from the back line into the box, and Scarpulla had an easy tap in for the goal.  For Scarps, it was his third goal of the season.

Ten minutes later with only two shots in between Freshman Alex Segura fed Hagerich a ball in the box and Hagerich cashed in his first collegiate goal.

ACU attempted 12 shots in the final 19 minutes but could only muster the two previous goals.

Prior to the contest, ACU honored their six seniors- Drew Cline (who started and made three saves), Nicholas Palomares, Tapia (4 shots), Jacob Drenth (2 shots), William Ozuma, and Chris Byrd (1 shot).

The Master's will come calling on Saturday as the Firestorm will host the Mustangs at the Rose Mofford Sports Complex at 1:30 pm.
