Box Score Phoenix, AZ- Arizona Christian honored their four seniors on Friday after their season concluding match. Senior Haley Worden celebrated with a career high of 12 kills. But it was not quite enough as the Firestorm fell 3-1 (25-22, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22) to San Diego Christian.
The Firestorm came out of the gate fired up as they built a 5-1 lead thanks in part to kills from Seniors Samantha McCants and Brenna Bailey. Moving ahead by as many as seven points, ACU appeared to have control of the set as they were up 21-17. But the Hawks answered with an 8-1 run to win the set.
Hitting was not a problem for either team in the opening set as both teams accounted for 14 kills. Service errors came back to haunt ACU. Junior Hailey Settle recorded four kills on six attacks without an error in set one.
Down 3-1 to begin the second set, the fifth year senior Worden recorded back-to-back kills to tie the set at 3-3. SDCC moved back in front momentarily for a point before Sophomore Toria Siemens and Worden produced kills followed by two straight service aces by Freshman Delaney Harris to push ACU ahead for the remainder of the set.
Worden had the hot hand in the second set with five kills as ACU once again recorded 14 kills as a team.
San Diego Christian rattled off the first five points of the third set to move out ahead early. The Hawks maintained the lead until Siemens used a kill to knot the set at 14-14. Two points later, Bailey made it 15-15 with a kill. The final tie came at 17-17. Unfortunately, SDCC held ACU scoreless the rest of the set.
A 2-0 lead turned into a 6-1 advantage and then a 10-3 edge for the Firestorm as the fourth set began. Up 14-11, ACU surrendered an 8-0 run to fall behind. Arizona Christian used a block party of three straight blocks (Siemens in on all three teaming with Settle and Worden) to earn their final lead of the season at 22-21. The Hawks once again kept the Firestorm off the scoreboard the remainder of the set, match, and season.
Along with Worden's career hitting night, she also notched a match high 17 digs. Settle doubled her effort as well with 10 kills and 13 assists. Harris passed out 19 assists. Abbey Yates concluded her freshman campaign with 11 digs.
Senior Bianka Curvey (six digs and two service aces) was the fourth senior honored after the match to close out her career.
