Box Score Las Vegas, NV- Playing for the first time away from Fultz Gym this season, Arizona Christian saw their second half comeback come up just short as they fell 70-63 to #25 Carroll on the neutral court of Durango High School. Five ACU players scored in double figures.
The first half was forgettable for the Firestorm (3-2) as they managed just 18 points in the first 20 minutes including only six points in the first quarter. After shooting just 26.7% from the floor, no Firestorm had scored more than five points in the half. They trailed 38-18 at the break.
Down as many as 25, ACU used a 10-2 run to close the third quarter and start to cut into the lead.
Forty-two seconds into the fourth quarter, Arizona Christian was down 56-37. Over the next seven and a half minutes, ACU cut their deficit to just four when Junior Suzie Castro-Larsen knocked a jumper.
The final 113 seconds became a free throw-a-thon as the Saints did not attempt another shot from the field as the Firestorm fouled trying to get back in the game. Unfortunately, ACU could not complete the comeback as CC hit enough of their free throws.
At game's end, Sophomores Courtney Christmas and Makayla Enders both recorded 11 points. Senior Courtney Leach, Sophomore Jada Willingham, and Freshman Toni Davis all pitched in 10 points. Christmas grabbed a team high nine rebounds.
On Saturday, the Firestorm return to action for their second game in three days at the La Vegas Shootout as they face off with Rocky Mountain at 4:00 pm Arizona time/ 3:00 pm Pacific.
