Firestorm Lose Second Match In Three Day Span

Box Score

Azusa, CA- Playing for third time in three days, Arizona Christian lost their second match of the three day span and season when they fell 8-1 to Azusa Pacific on Monday.  Freshman Tia Okano managed the only ACU win of the match.

Doubles was all Azusa Pacific as the closest scores were 8-2.

Singles play was much more of the same as the Cougars (11-4) did not lose more than three points a set in the five of the six matches.  However, the court three match was a much different scenario.

The first set between Okano and Lilit Vardanyan resulted in a 6-1 win for Vardanyan.  But the match tighten from there.  Okano held on for a 6-4 second set win.  With one set a piece going in favor of each player and the team match already decided, they headed to a super tiebreak third set.  Normally played to 10, Okano and Vardanyan needed another game to determine the winner.  Okano won 11-9 to claim the match win.

After playing three straight days, the Firestorm (12-2) will now have a ten day break.  They will actually play again in California on Thursday (3/31) when they face associate GSAC member Lewis-Clark State on the neutral courts of Biola at a time still to be determined.
