Firestorm Advance To GSAC Finals

Box Score

Indian Wells, CA- With a 5-1 win over third seed Lewis-Clark State College, second seed Arizona Christian advanced to their first ever GSAC Tournament Final.  After taking a 2-1 lead in doubles, the Firestorm grabbed wins in the first three singles matches completed to secure the win at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The doubles contests were the tightest completed matches on the day.  All three matches ended with scores of 8-6.  The Warriors duo of Stephanie Buckingham and Deanri Human won the match on the third court.  Freshman Tia Okano and Senior Iulia Marcenco earned the court two win.  Senior Desiree Jackson and Sophomore Mikayla Morgan wrapped doubles with the court one win to move the Firestorm (17-3) ahead 2-1.

Morgan carried her win momentum into singles as she delivered a pair of 6-1 wins over Hannah Uhlenkott.

Not long after Jackson capped off her 6-1 and 6-2 victory on court one.

Okano finished up the team win with 6-2 and 6-3 scores over Buckingham on court number three.

Marcenco was just a game win away from securing a match win but instead saw her match go down as unfinished.

Courts five and six saw Junior Lauryn Sullins and Freshman Lauren Garcia both win their first sets with 7-6 and 6-4 results.  LCSC's Anna Rodriguez and Kianna Arthur were leading in the second sets before those matches also went down as unfinished.

The tenth ranked Firestorm will now face seventh ranked and top seeded Westmont in the GSAC Championship match on Thursday at 9:00 am.  ACU and WC split their season series.  The #19 LCSC Warriors (8-14) will now wait for their probable invitation to the NAIA National Tournament.
