Morris Leads Firestorm At Day One Of GSAC Championships

Santa Barbara, CA- Freshman Jordan Morris had the best showing for Arizona Christian Men's Track on the first day of the GSAC Track Championships as he had the top qualifying mark in the 100 meter race and third at the 200 meter distance.

Morris started rolling with a 10.82 time in the 100 meter race.  Sophomore Rodrick Griffin qualified for the 100 meter finals with a time of 11.16.

In the 200 meter prelims, Morris raced his way to a 22.19 finish.  Sophomore Justin Barnes moved on to Friday's 200 finals with a 22.60 effort.

The lone Firestorm to advance to Friday's 400 meter finals was Junior Marcus Howard with a fourth place qualifying time of 50.95.

Griffin and Howard ended up second and third in the 400 meter hurdles prelims.

Sophomore Karl Kleppe concluded half of the decathlon events in third place with 2,664 points.  He took second in the 400 meter race with a run of 55.47 seconds and in the shot put at 10.07 meters.  His final five events will come on Friday.

In the events that went final on Thursday, the ACU 4x800 relay team featuring Senior Chris Bates, Freshman Tanner Hilton, Freshman Matt Castillo, and Junior David Hoskinson placed fourth with a 9:14.79 result.

The long jump event saw Griffin claim fifth with a 6.47 meter jump while Sophomore Steven James was good for ninth with a 6.05 meter effort.

Senior Cale Campbell punched his ticket to the NAIA Nationals Meet with a javelin throw of 55.03 meters just surpassing the NAIA B Standard by three tenths of a meter.  On Thursday, he threw his way to a fifth place finish.

On Friday, the Firestorm will complete their GSAC Championship participation.
