Mesa, AZ- On Friday, Arizona Christian men's track placed four in the top 10 at the Mesa Classic hosted by Mesa Community College. Sophomore Rodrick Griffin set three new season best marks. Freshman Tanner Hilton produced two season best efforts.
Hilton was the lone ACU participant in the 400m race. He ran a time of 56.08 in his first 400 attempt of the season. He then shaved almost two seconds off his time in the 800m race as he ended up with a 2:06.06 time. Senior Chris Bates knocked two seconds off of his 800m time as well as he crossed the line at 2:16.43.
Griffin trimmed his 400m hurdles time to 54.03 to end up in sixth. That time ranks seventh in the NAIA on the season.
The Firestorm ran the 4x400 for the first time in the 2016 season. Freshman Matt Castillo, Sophomore Justin Barnes, Griffin, and Junior Marcus Howard teamed up to post a time of 3:34.85 and take fifth.
Sophomore Steven James triple jumped his way to a distance of 43'8.5" to earn sixth place. He also had a long jump of 20'2.5".
Rounding out the top ten finishers was Senior Cale Campbell with a 163'5" javelin throw. His toss gave him a seventh place finish.
The Firestorm will return to Mesa Community College in two weeks to compete in the Mesa Invitational.
