Kaye Just Misses Podium In Opener

Hemet, CA- Senior Sarah Kaye made a strong second round push but just missed out on the podium in the season opener for Arizona Christian at the CA State Intercollegiate at the Diamond Valley Golf Club hosted by the University of La Verne.  The women finished six of nine.

In a field of just two NAIA schools and seven NCAA DII or DIII schools, 52 golfers headed to the links on Monday.

Kaye produced a season opening round of 77 on Monday.  She was even better on Tuesday as she delivered a 73 to end up at a plus six 150 and just two shots off the podium.

Sophomore Jordyn Deardorff came out clubs a blazing as she fired a career best one under 71 and locked herself into a four tie for first place after just one round.  Unfortunately, her second time through the course she did get the same result as she scored an 81.  Her 152 placed her seventh and eight over for the tournament.

Junior Alysha Danache started her season with an 81.  On Tuesday, she saw her score go up to a 91.  She finished with a 172.

Rounding out the ACU effort was Freshman Rina Labianca making her collegiate debut with scores of 93 and 88 and Junior Sylvia Renfroe recording a combine score of 210.

The Firestorm will have a week off before returning to action for the Dixie State Fall Invitational at the Sand Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane, UT, on Monday, October 3.
