Win Streak Ends In New Mexico

Box Score

Hobbs, NM- Arizona Christian Men's Soccer saw their four match win streak come to end on Wednesday as they fell 2-1 at the University of the Southwest.  Junior Roberto Valenzuela scored the Firestorm goal.

Shots were at a premium all day but especially in the first half as both teams managed just three attempts in the first 45 minutes.

After the first half was played mostly between the goal boxes, the teams opened up play a little more with the Mustangs (2-0) pulling the trigger on six shots versus the five shots for the Firestorm (4-2).

Less than three minutes into the second half, USW broke the 0-0 tie with the game's first goal.

Ten minutes later, Valenzuela used his fourth goal of the season to knot the match at one goal apiece.

But ACU's momentum did not last long as not even two minutes rolled off the game clock before the Mustangs accounted for the game winning goal when Allan Navarro- who assisted on the first goal- found the back of the net.

Despite the best efforts of the Firestorm, they could not find the equalizer.  When the final whistle blew ACU saw their longest win streak since a six game win effort in 2013 come to an end.

With over a week off, ACU will have the opportunity to heal up a few ailments.  The Firestorm will not be back in action until a week from Saturday when they welcome Soka to the Rose Mofford Sports Complex for a 7:00 pm match.
