Box Score Phoenix, AZ- Facing the second best defensive unit in the NAIA, Arizona Christian needed to capitalize on their chances on Tuesday. But Biola drained 55.6% of their shots from the field as they held off ACU 70-60. Junior Matt Willkomm produced a team high 15 points.
The Eagles (18-2, 4-2 GSAC) scored the first five points. The Firestorm (12-6, 0-6 GSAC) answered with the next seven points- a three pointer from Senior Chris Sterling, a layup and one by Willkomm, and a free throw from Senior Shy McClelland- for a 7-5 lead.
A minute later, Biola moved in front for good on a three pointer. The Eagles moved out to 31-16 half time edge thanks to outshooting the Firestorm 54.5% versus 19.2% in the first 20 minutes.
Sterling and Willkomm both had six first half points. Biola's Caelen Tiongson went 9-12 from the floor on his way 21 points before the game reached halftime.
In the second half, ACU improved their shooting to 45.5% but BU also moved up to 56.5%.
Come Saturday, the Firestorm will need to slow William Jessup to earn their first GSAC win of the season. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm AT/ 2:00 pm PT.
