Box Score Waxahachie, TX- After winning their first 14 Central States Football League games, Arizona Christian's undefeated run through the CSFL came to an unimpressive end as the Firestorm fell 43-6 to SAGU on Saturday afternoon.
ACU opened with an 11 play drive but could not cash in points. The Lions (4-1, 3-0 CSFL) answered with a 10 play drive resulting in a touchdown.
Senior Derek Brush unleashed a 70 yard punt to end the second drive for the Firestorm (4-1, 2-1 CSFL).
But SAGU went on to score 23 points in the second quarter. They added the first 13 points of the second half as well to build a 43-0 lead.
Following a fumble lost on a punt return deep in SAGU territory (recovered by Senior Deion Jones), ACU accounted for their lone score of the night. Senior Ryan Esslinger connected with Junior Kendrick Murphy from 19 yards out.
Esslinger threw for 173 yards and the TD but was also credited with two interceptions.
Dunken was the top receiver with seven catches for 55 yards. ACU managed only 285 yards of offense but surrendered 498 yards.
Junior Austin Schleier led the team in tackles again with seven.
Head Coach Jeff Bowen commented, "Hats off to SAGU. They played well in all three phases and we did not. We'll watch film and get things fixed. We will work together so that next week we will play and coach better. There is still a lot of season left and our goals haven't changed"
The Firestorm will look to return to their winning ways on Saturday when they host Lyon College at Shadow Mountain High School. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
