Box Score Santee, CA- For the second time in as many matches, Arizona Christian found themselves playing shorthanded. But unlike Thursday, on Saturday, the Firestorm found the winning combination as they won 4-1 at San Diego Christian. Freshman Diego Robles found the back of the net twice.
Robles did not waste much time as he scored three minutes into the contest.
Twenty-three minutes later, ACU caught a break when a ball was deflected into the net by an SDCC player for an own goal.
Senior Roberto Valenzuela took over the ACU season lead in goals as he collected his ninth of the season a minute into the second half.
Nine minutes later, the Hawks (3-11, 0-7 GSAC) got on the board after Patrik Borchmann scored.
But Robles locked in his third goal of the season in the 63rd minute to put the game out of reach.
Head Coach Andrew Belleman commented, "It was really important for us to score early. The guys did a nice job establishing the game right away. With all of the things we have going on right now, this is a huge win for us and get us one step closer to getting into the conference tournament. I am proud of the guys and their bounce back all year. Now we have the opportunity to prepare to improve on our games with Hope International and Vanguard."
Currently sitting fifth in the GSAC, ACU needs positive results this coming week to help lock in a playoff spot. Their first chance will come on Thursday when they host Hope International at Rose Mofford at 7:30 pm.
