First Half Hole Too Big To Climb Out

Box Score

Phoenix, AZ- On Saturday, Women's Basketball dug themselves a first half hole and despite a second half rally, Arizona Christian fell 65-58 to Providence (MT).  Junior Makayla Enders was the leading scorer for ACU with 20 points.

Junior Courtney Christmas used a free throw to score the first ACU point of the afternoon.

But the Argonauts (5-0) scored 13 seconds later and actually stayed ahead the rest of the game.

ACU climbed without one point at 8-7 on a basket by Enders.  UP held an 18-10 advantage at the quarter.

In the second quarter, Providence tacked on and were in front by as many as 16 points including 40-24 at the half.

Enders was the only Firestorm in double figures at the half.  Shooting was the problem in the first half as ACU made only 25.9% (7-27) of their attempts from the field.

Despite cutting their deficit briefly into single digits, the Firestorm (1-1) still found themselves behind 11 points at the third to fourth quarter change.

The first nine plus minutes of the fourth quarter saw ACU allow just eight points to Providence.  When Senior Suzie Castro-Larsen scored on jumper in the paint, Arizona Christian was down just three points.

However, Providence made six of their eight free throw attempts in the final seconds to seal the deal.

Behind 20 points from Enders, Christmas added 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Junior Jada Willingham added nine points.

On Friday, the Firestorm will return to the Fultz Memorial Gym court to face Johnson & Wales (CO) at 7:00 pm.
