Box Score Phoenix, AZ- In a battle of 54 point halves, Arizona Christian led wire-to-wire in their 101-80 win over of West Coast Baptist on Thursday night. Senior Matt Willkomm scored an ACU high 15 points while Sophomore Lawrence Combs delivered a 10 point and career high 10 rebound effort.
Junior Carter Wilson dropped in the first two points of the night with a drive to the hoop. Junior Callum Lawson added the next three points to give the Firestorm (6-1) a 5-0 lead. The Eagles (1-9) scored five of the next seven points to climb back within two.
But ACU came right back with a 13-0 run. The score moved in and out of a double digit difference until Senior Andy Sessions dialed in a three pointer with 7:37 left in the first half to create a permanent minimum of a ten point edge.
The Firestorm outscored the Eagles 26-9 the rest of the way for 54-26 half time score.
Lawson topped all scorers with ten first half points. Defensively, ACU held WCBC to 28.1% shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Despite Arizona Christian building as large as a 37 point edge with 14:15 to go, West Coast Baptist kept shooting and closed the gap to 16 points over the next 11 minutes. WCBC scored 54 points in the second half but ACU scored 47 of their own.
Wilson ended the game with 11 points. Lawson and Senior Patson Siame both added ten points. Junior Andres Aguado and Freshman Geoff Hibbitt each locked in nine points.
On Saturday, the Firestorm will welcome Ottawa (AZ) to Fultz Memorial Gym for a 7:30 pm showdown.
