Box Score Phoenix, AZ- The trio of Junior Jada Willingham, Sophomore Toni Davis, and Junior Courtney Christmas carried Arizona Christian past Ottawa (AZ) on Monday as they accounted for 61 points in the 89-62 ACU win.
After the Spirt (1-8) grabbed the first two points of the night, Senior Suzie Castro-Larsen converted an offensive rebound into a put back to forge a 2-2 tie. Willingham then went to work and scored the next four points for a brief 6-2 edge. OUAZ knotted the game at 6-6 with six minutes to play in the first quarter.
But the Firestorm (8-1) countered with the next six points- two from Junior Makayla Enders, two from Willingham, and two by Davis to move ahead 12-6. ACU held OUAZ to just four points the remainder of the quarter and were ahead 21-10 after ten minutes.
The lead grew to as large as 23 points before the half. With a 50-32 advantage for ACU, Willingham was the difference in the half as she notched 18 points on 8-11 shooting. She concluded her evening with a game high 22 points.
In the third quarter, ACU held OUAZ to just five points while posting 25 points of their own for a 75-37 lead headed into the fourth quarter.
With five points each at the half, Davis and Christmas exploded in primarily the third quarter. Davis poured in 16 points to reach her 21 point total. Christmas picked the pockets of the Spirit as she nearly recorded a triple-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 steals- tying her single game high.
For good measure, Enders and Junior Jac Moody added nine points each.
On Friday, the Firestorm will host NCAA DII Western New Mexico at 7:00 pm.
